So many books and so little time. We all have our own likes and dislikes with books, and it’s so hard to decide which books to read. What about buying a book and realizing UGH! I don’t like this! but not being able to return it? I know my budget couldn’t afford me to purchase five-dollar-plus books I think are awful so they just sit there. Enter digital media and the Kindle.
The Kindle is personally my favorite device, and I am familiar with it and the versatility is has. Using apps, you can read Kindle books on your laptop, phone, or tablet, and then have your Kindle device. All devices can sync and share books, so you never get lost or must find your place. Who has ever been in a waiting room forever and wished you had your book with you? Bet you had your phone, right? This way you can read wherever you are and maybe even enjoy that waiting room a little.
The book selection available is incredible and seems never-ending, with new books being announced daily. As if you couldn’t ask for more, you get the book instantly. This definitely plays into the love of a series when you get to the end of the book at two a.m. and NEED to know what happens next—NOW.
Quite a few authors release a book for free for a limited time or for ninety-nine cents, and this way you can taste their books and start on a wonderful series, or even decide that the author isn’t to your taste. For example, Angel Payne has the first book in her Honor Bound series free on Kindle. If soldiers aren’t to your liking, you can always sample from some of her other series such as The Bolt Saga. You can’t go wrong, and you are introduced to a series you might have missed out on.
What if the style of writing didn’t do it for you, and you want something with a lighter fun feel to it? Then maybe you can try out the first book in the Calendar Girl series by Audrey Carlan. Become addicted quick by reading the first book of this series, and since you have instant access to the next book, it makes it so much easier if you are sitting on the beach reading and need to see what happens in February.
So you aren’t a series person—don’t stress. You can always try out a book in the Misadventures Series. Yes, it has “series” in the name, but you can read all the individual books in whatever order you like, as they are by different authors and have different characters. With twenty-five books by various authors, you are sure to find one you will like. By finding one you like, then you can venture into their other works.
As a reader, one of best parts of Amazon is following your favorite authors. Found one you can’t put down? Click on the author’s name and you can follow them. The benefits of this are notices of new releases, and sometimes you get notified that something is on sale. There are even occasional giveaways of ebooks and compilations, which for any book lover is an amazing gift.
With so many books being read, it can be difficult to remember who wrote what and what book is coming out next. By following the author, you’ve given this job to Amazon, as they will send you daily release notices along with cover art so you can click and order or even preorder.
If you are an Amazon Prime member, the benefits can grow from there. They have a wonderful selection of romance novels within their Prime Reading membership section. This is a free service for borrowing books. You can upgrade to the Kindle Unlimited plan to get more books and a larger selection, but this comes with a price. For a person who reads more than five books in a month, it can be a great investment.
Never discount your library for your Kindle. Services such as Overdrive offer a great selection of books. Though it won’t work on a Kindle Paperwhite, Hoopla even carries a great selection of the Misadventures Series for you to read digitally. If you have a Kindle Fire or even read on your phone, this app will be one to have.
For new recommendations and another site to find your favorite authors, try Bookbub.com. This site gives you the ability to sort through authors, genres, pricing, and style of book you would like. Again, follow your favorite authors here to find excellent books and even new authors. With their pricing on books updated daily, seeing the big red FREE price is always a great find.
Goodreads Giveaways are another way to add to your ever-growing Kindle library. Follow your favorite author (see a theme here?) and find out about giveaways and new releases. This is a great way to keep track of what you have read and what you would like to read.
The Goodreads Giveaways page allows you to browse through their selection of current giveaways by format, and you can select Kindle to see just Kindle offerings, but with the great selection, always look at the paperback giveaways as well—you wouldn’t want to miss out.
Even if the author you are looking for doesn’t have a lower-cost book, the prices of Kindle books are usually lower than paperback. Most don’t know that you can share the books you have purchased with your friends who have Kindles as well. Using the app for this purchase is fine, which makes sharing books and being able to discuss them with friends a lot of fun.
There is no right or wrong when you try books and authors on for size. Some authors have a style that will appeal to you and some won’t. Some books will grab your attention instantly, and then there are those you have no problem switching to a different book to read in the middle of it.
Using digital media, you can find your perfect fit within your budget. Your reading list is guaranteed to grow quickly, and finding time to read may start to become a priority when you get instant access to all those tasty novels.
